Unsurprisingly, many protests were held at the state Capitol this year. The state legislature’s Republican supermajority passed a number of hateful bills that impacted many in Nashville, including what some have referred to as a “slate of hate” targeting the LGBTQ community. But one cause brought Nashvillians together in a manner that felt like something out of a movie. The gun reform protests that arrived in the wake of the Covenant School shooting in March saw community members from all demographics flow into the Capitol chambers, chanting and pleading with legislators to listen to the families of those who had lost children and to end the senseless violence.
