There’s almost a century of candy biz bookended by these confectionary emporiums. Green Hills’ Sugar Dive is the new model: a two-story catch-all that’s as much a whimsically decorated event space and soda shop as it is a clearing house for boa-sized Gummi worms, lollipops, Jelly Bellys, oddball chocolate bars of distant lands, and other dental death-wish items. The Arcade’s beloved Peanut Shop, in contrast, looks much as it did in 1927, down to the metal balance scales used to measure your portions of (sigh) dark chocolate almonds, roasted macadamias and pecans, and of course the peanuts that create its irresistible smell — part circus midway, part small-town hardware store, and pure Americana.
