Sure, you could wander out to the backyard with a smartphone app that charts the constellations — but where’s the fun in that? Instead, use that smartphone to find out where the Barnard-Seyfert Astronomical Society (BASA) Public Star Party is happening. Armed with telescopes, the group sets up in local parks (and occasionally the Adventure Science Center), where they’ll show you the rings of Saturn, Orion’s belt or a lunar eclipse. Not much happens at these parties, but they give kids a chance to ponder life, the universe and everything. See bsasnashville.com for a schedule.
