If the weather outside is delightful in December, the Dickens of a Christmas Festival is great way to sneak in some Christmas shopping with kids in tow. In theory, you’re teaching the children about literature and the story’s themes of greed, generosity, and forgiveness; in reality, Franklin’s Main Street is festive and ready for business. Scrooge, the Ghost of Christmas Future and assorted Victorian carolers stroll down the middle of Main and lend a festive air to the activities. A man sells roasted chestnuts on a street corner; a woman sells sugarplums; and the Main Street Toy Shoppe has the best selection of stocking stuffers Santa could hope to find.
