Boo Dudes, Ron Gallo and Many More Remember Fond Object's Jeff Pettit

Stop, children — what’s that sound? Is it the wind, whispering in the falling leaves? Or perhaps the moaning of the unquiet dead? Nope, it’s just The Horrible Sounds of Boo Dudes, the latest release from Music City’s devilishly dedicated kayfabe kings of Halloween. 

Last year, Boo Dudes' Jesse Boo and Ghastly Mike Hackenslash handed the reins over to their franchisees, but as Horrible Sounds’ closing track “Hackety Axe” explains, all of them met gruesome fates. Who could have foreseen such a calamity? The production details of the new LP are a bit murky (as ever): The crew makes a suspiciously big deal of noting that Ghastly Mike had nothing to do with it, since he managed to get himself incarcerated on charges involving “desecration of rare antiquities” and “minor fraud,” while British weed fan Röngwulf has stepped in as honorary lead vocalist. 

As always, there’s quite a lot of genre hopping going on, from the garage-surf of “An American Werewolf in Debt” to the post-punk-y “Plan 9 From Delta-8” to the darkwave dreamscape of “Are You Afraid of the Narc?” We get an update on the ever-suffering Vlad Dracula via “Dracula Needs a Ride to the Store,” a rap joint featuring Merlin Mansons and drummer Gary Da Gillperson. Tad Dracula (Vlad’s younger brother, if you’ve been following along in your Heckronomicon) produced and played “creepboards” yet again. Bloody Buddy Pearlman is once again back as superproducer, and while not credited, The Entity From the Other Place does get some shout-outs.

Given Ghastly Mike’s legal difficulties, you could be forgiven for not expecting much more from the Dudes this spooOOOky season, but you’re in for a treat. Per a missive from Jesse Boo, if you’re going to Saturday’s (sold-out) horror-movie marathon 12 Hours of Terror at the Belcourt, you can expect … some fresh solo material (your mileage may vary, as does various mummies’ definitions of “fresh”) under the guise of Boo Dude.
