cannery hall sign install 2023

Workers install new signage at Cannery Hall

There had been concerts in the complex formerly home to Cannery Ballroom, Mercy Lounge and The High Watt off and on since the 1980s. And those three main venue spaces played a major role in local music between 2003 and 2022.

After more than a year of relative quiet about the progress of renovations at the site, property owner DZL Management released some new photos and renderings in July, noting that the work was on pace to allow for an opening by the end of this year. It seems they didn’t quite hit that target, but they’ll get pretty close: Word comes today that the revamped, renamed venues will open in January, and tickets are on sale now for some of the first shows.

Several of the early entries on the calendar are of the electronic variety. The very first is Denver ensemble Sunsquabi’s Jan. 24 show at the 300-capacity Row One Stage, formerly known as The High Watt. Two days later, NYC electronic duo Walker & Royce plays the 1,275-cap The Mainstage, formerly Cannery Ballroom, while on Feb. 10, Florida producer Tape B headlines at 625-cap The Mil, which you previously knew as Mercy Lounge. The first Nashvillian on the schedule so far is songsmith and rocker par excellence Lilly Hiatt, who headlined the final show at Mercy in May 2022 and will play Row One on Feb. 17.

Keep an eye on Cannery Hall’s Instagram profile for more.

Correction: An earlier version of this post incorrectly listed the new names of the venues and their audience capacities. The information has been updated.
