With yesterday’s big Pat Martin news, Monday Menu got pushed out a day this week. But don’t worry — you haven’t missed anything!
When Strategic Hospitality hired chef Andy Little as their new director of culinary operations, they were already familiar with one another. Little was the originator and seasonal stalwart of Strategic’s annual guest chef pop-ups at The Band Box in right field at First Horizon Park. Some of the most talented chefs in town take over the kitchen at The Band Box for selected Thursday night Nashville Sounds home games to present their elevated versions of classic ballpark fare.
Don’t hate me, but we’ve already missed chef Little’s contribution for this season, as he led off with a Meatball Parmesan Hoagie, with Grandma Vigliotta’s meatballs, marinara sauce, Parmesan cheese on an amoroso roll prepared in collaboration with chef Dave Vigliotta of The Titans Press Box at BNA.
But no worries, there are still plenty of opportunities this season to experience some fun food from amazing chefs. Alphonso Anderson of Big Al’s Deli is on deck to serve on April 18, and other featured chefs will include the newly named next chefs at The Catbird Seat, Andy Doubrava and Tiffani Ortiz, as well as Sean Brock, Bryan Lee Weaver, the Lao cuisine of Bad Idea’s Colby Rasavong, Karl Worley, Levon Wallace, Chris and Emma Baird of SS Gai, Josh Habiger and several others. Admission to the pop-ups is included with your ticket to the game, so head out to the ballpark for a game and a great meal!
Tonight and Tuesday, April 23, Tito’s Vodka is teaming up with Schulman’s to present a special “Yappy Hour” to benefit Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary. Older dogs don’t always get a lot of love and are tougher for rescue operations to find adoptive parents, so they can use all the help they can get. The sanctuary has housed 1,400 older dogs since they opened in 2012, and they currently have 125 good dogs in house, plus another 400-plus living in forever homes with “Geezer Guardians.”
Fittingly, the East Nashville bar’s namesake David “Skull” Schulman was famous for walking his poodles up and down Printers Alley, so his spirit will definitely be in the air at 1201 Porter Road from 5 until 7 p.m., when Tito’s will donate a dollar from every cocktail purchase to the organization. If you’ve got a soft spot for good dogs, consider dropping by to help out!
Marsh House at the Thompson Hotel in the Gulch has big plans for Thursday, April 25, when they will host a big wine dinner pitting bottles from Napa and the west Sonoma coast to see which county reigns supreme. The event will be curated by Matt Taylor, a third-generation California wine country native. He will select five different wines to pair with a four-course meal prepared by Marsh House executive chef Brack May and his staff. It’ll be up to the diners to pick their favorites. Tickets are priced at $150 per guest and can be purchased via Resy. Â
