Four Walls at The Joseph in SoBro continues its excellent series of guest mixologist pop-ups on Thursday, March 26, with a visit from two members of the bar team at Please Don’t Tell in New York City. PDT (as it’s commonly referred to) has been one of the most influential bars in America since it was opened by Jim Meehan, Brian Shebairo and Chris Antista in 2007. Accessible through the back of a phone booth in the hot dog restaurant next door, PDT is considered a pioneer in the modern speakeasy trend.
Through the years, the bar team has published one of the most influential cocktail recipe books of the 21st century and invented famous drinks like the Benton's Old Fashioned with bacon-washed bourbon and the mezcal-based Green Mamba.
The group show of Nashville women artists is the art crawl of our dreams
Four Walls has been inviting visiting bartenders to create cocktails based around art openings at The Frist Art Museum, and the latest exhibition is In Her Place, an exploration of women artists and their works. PDT is sending head bartender Chloe Siok and bartender Mala Fereday to present their offerings in a one-night collaboration that will run from 5 p.m. until midnight.
PDT and Four Walls bartenders will mix up cocktails that they feel represent the narrative of the exhibition. Any night is a great occasion to visit Four Walls, a stunning space to enjoy a proper cocktail. But if you need more convincing, I’ll give you a peek at the featured drinks in advance:
By Her Hand (Four Walls x Please Don’t Tell): A bright, tropical tribute to women’s lasting impact, featuring Haku vodka, Licor 43, Manzanilla sherry and clarified passionfruit, served with sparkling wine and a spoon of passionfruit caviar.
Murasaki Sour (PDT): Inspired by Murasaki Shikibu, author of The Tale of Genji, this tart and sweet cocktail combines El Tesoro Reposado tequila, Umeshu plum liqueur, miso-jasmine syrup, citrus, egg white and a plum juice float.
The Spence (PDT): Honoring Joy Spence, Appleton Estate’s first female master blender, this layered rum cocktail features Cruzan, Appleton Estate 8 Reserve, Planteray Cut & Dry Coconut Rum, pandan liqueur, demerara, cold brew concentrate and an orange cream float.
Material Memory (Four Walls): Inspired by "Materiality and Memory," the opening section of the Frist’s In Her Place, this cocktail celebrates preservation and heritage with genmaicha-steeped Suntory Toki Japanese whisky, white sesame orgeat, cardamom bitters and a tahini garnish with wafu gel.
Scenes and Dreams (Four Walls): Dreamlike and surreal, this cocktail draws from "Scenes and Dreams" from In Her Place, with Roku gin, Amaro Pasubio, clarified huckleberry, rhubarb cordial and garnishes of dehydrated huckleberry dust and rhubarb leaf.
See you there tomorrow!
