Oblon

West Nashville’s Hathorne continues to reinvent itself as a dining and entertainment destination. Already known for excellent food and drink, Hathorne has also hosted many fun pop-up dining opportunities for local food entrepreneurs. And now, they’re getting into the music business — at least for one night.

On Monday, Aug. 9, local guitar ace (and former Paul Simon drummer) Jim Oblon will lead an all-star trio featuring Viktor Krauss and Pete Abbot for a special show at the restaurant from 9 until 11 p.m. Hathorne is usually closed on Mondays, but they’ll open up an hour before the free show for drinks and snacks, so you can make an entire evening of it.

Kisser

In other good news, Japanese pop-up Kisser was supposed to end its run of serving inventive Asian-inspired snacks and sandwiches at The Patterson House at the end of last month, but the response has been so positive that they have extended their stay by two months through the end of September. I was lucky enough to sample the menu that Brian Lea and Leina Horii have been serving alongside cocktail and wine options from TPH, and I was duly impressed. I strongly suggest putting together a group of four friends for a Sunday or Monday early-bird special and just ordering the entire menu. There wasn’t a weak link in anything we ordered, and the combination of flavors and presentations was really delightful.

The dining/drinking area at Patterson House was packed when we arrived at 4:30 p.m., so I also recommend making your reservations in advance to assure a spot at a table. Walk-ups are also welcome at the bar, but you’re gonna want some real estate to spread out all that fantastic food. Some of the food items lend themselves to doubling up on your order to ensure that everyone at the table gets a bite, so you might want to ask your server for advice. My group enjoyed the entire menu with a few repeat dishes plus cocktails and a bottle of Prosecco for about $60 a head, and I can tell you that it was a fine way to pass an early Sunday evening.
