If you somehow missed out on Portara Ensemble’s inspiring Dangerous concert back in 2023, you’re in luck. The dynamic 32-voice chamber choir is back this weekend with a second installment — Dangerous: el sueño americano. According to artistic director Jason Shelton, this new Dangerous show will “share stories and songs of people from diverse backgrounds, who all have something in common — the American dream.” The program showcases composers from around the world, including Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Armenia, Ireland, the Philippines and the United States. Nashville poet and author Ciona Rouse will be on hand to share Warsan Shire’s “Home” — a powerful poem that explores the desperation and danger that often drives the refugee experience. Guests can sample tasty bites from immigrant-owned food trucks after the concert. And best of all, ticket sales from the performance will benefit the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition, a collaborative organization that works to “build power, amplify voices and organize communities to advocate for their rights.”
