If you’re passionate about new musicals, you’ll definitely want to check out the new First Stage concert series, beginning Saturday at Analog at Hutton Hotel. Established by New Musical Theater Nashville in partnership with Analog and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, The First Stage provides a welcome spotlight for local writers, performers and musicians, while giving audiences a sneak peek at some exciting new work. For Douglas Waterbury-Tieman, founder of NMTN, the new series promises to build on the collective’s popular writers’-round-style concerts, which have been hugely successful. “NMTN is excited to partner with Analog at Hutton Hotel and ASCAP to bring Nashville audiences one step closer to the process of developing musicals with The First Stage,” he says. “These concerts will stir the imagination as audiences journey into the mind of writers, who are hungry to share their brand new work. We are dedicated to connecting new work with audiences, and Analog is the perfect place to make a meaningful connection.” This weekend’s inaugural showcase features Sarah Aili with her new musical Back in Birmingham (co-written with Radney Foster), along with Meredith DiMenna’s new rock ’n’ roll cabaret I Make Sense in Texas.
