Lowbrow-ish

Here, in the metamodern present, gallery spaces no longer limit themselves to the paintings, drawings and sculptures that once made up traditional fine-art presentations in the 20th century. Nowadays crafts, fashion, performance and forms from popular culture might all be found in commercial galleries and institutional spaces. Several years ago, Rock Wall Gallery’s Ryan Rado founded Lowbrow — an annual exhibition highlighting a who’s-who of Nashville’s local tattoo artists. After a recent pause, the event returns to Rock Wall this weekend with Lowbrow-ish, a display featuring Rachael Cunningham’s exquisite blackwork botanical designs, Trevor Tuck’s vintage Americana tats and more than a dozen of Music City’s best ink-slingers.

Opening reception 6-9 p.m. April 18; through May 31 at Rock Wall Gallery

438 Houston St.
