During the 2025-26 campaign, the Reds and the Black Cats each finished in the top seven of the Premier League to clinch spots in continent-wide competition in the upcoming season — Liverpool earned a Champions League spot, while Sunderland will compete in the second-tier Europa League. After a grueling summer schedule thanks to the aforementioned World Cup, it’s not guaranteed that each of the club’s biggest stars will take the pitch. But I — along with many other local football fans — will be crossing my fingers that Egyptian soccer icon and Liverpool winger Mo Salah will follow up his impressive Cup performance with an appearance at Geodis on Saturday.
