Casey Crescenzo — the principal conductor of modern prog rock — has been weaving melodic tales into theatrical (and catchy-as-hell) tunes for two decades as the maestro of Rhode Island-born band The Dear Hunter. The band staked its claim as one of the most ambitious in art-rock music with the Act albums, a rock opera told in a five-release arc. A decade after wrapping the Act project, the band continues to release notable prog-rock efforts, including last year’s five-song North American EP and Sunya, a seven-song experimental collection released earlier this year. Diving into the Act series? Listen to “A Night on the Town,” a nine-minute song that captures big-riff rock sing-along and cinematic world-building in equal measure. Those looking to spin something from the new releases should try “Marauders,” a delightful cut of earwormy rock released on Sunya. The run of dates is billed as the Road to Sunya Tour, and support at the Nashville show includes Motherfolk and K Será.
