Dumpster FyreFest 2

The image of a big metal bin full of malodorous garbage in flames has been useful shorthand for general world events for too long, and too many urgent social needs get treated with as much care as 2017’s not-even-half-assed, doomed-before-it-started Fyre Festival (which inspired two documentaries and countless memes). The folks behind Dumpster Fyre Fest are putting on three nights of shows at The Cobra featuring massively creative Nashville music with proceeds going to local organizations that make our city feel like less of a trash fire. Thursday’s kickoff benefits Nashville Launch Pad, which aids young people experiencing homelessness, and the bill includes wide-ranging reed-centric music from Abstract Black as well as alt-rock from Shakira Chinchilla. Friday’s show supports Thistle Farms, the long-running org supporting women survivors of trafficking and addiction, and the lineup includes rockers like Cha Cha Heels and Gross Motor. Saturday’s gig is raising funds for youth arts organization YEAH!, with performances from experimental rock outfit Vladopus9, soulfully rocking ensemble Altered Statesman and more. Eight artists are scheduled to play each night, and individual day tickets as well as a discounted pass to all three nights are available.
