While plenty of the great pickers around our fair Music City can hold their own on more than one instrument, no one is ripping on resonator guitar and banjo in quite the same way as Cristina Vane. We’re about a month shy of one year since she released her latest LP Hear My Call, which features guest appearances from such contemporary roots champions as Molly Tuttle and Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, not to mention production work by musician-about-town Brook Sutton. While Vane’s considerable instrumental chops play a big role, she deftly blends mountain music, trad country, electric blues and a bit of rock in service of songs about looking back on romantic relationships that weren’t working. She’s especially eloquent about the deep kind of loneliness that creeps in when partners aren’t on the same page — hear “My Mountain” and “Whims of Good Men” for some fine examples. Here’s your chance to catch Vane in her adopted hometown before she hits the road with Brennen Leigh.
