State Rep. Jody Barrett (R-Dickson), a Republican candidate in the 7th Congressional District race, is touting a slew of endorsements ahead of the Oct. 7 primary. Among those endorsements is that of former 7th District Rep. Mark Green’s ex-wife.
Family blames ‘toxic environment’ in D.C. for affair, but infidelity might not be enough for him to lose reelection bid
“After spending some time with Jody and Holly Barrett, I believe Jody to be the best candidate to serve TN-07 in the U.S. House of Representatives,” says Camie Guenther-Green in a release. “With his legislative and professional experience coupled with a deep grounding in faith, I am confident he is well prepared politically and spiritually to meet the demands and challenges of Washington, D.C., without losing his heart for the people who elect him.”
In 2024, Guenther-Green spoke out about Green, accusing him of corruption and adultery. The Greens’ messy divorce grabbed headlines and led to some Republicans privately voicing disappointment with Green following his resignation from Congress.
Barrett is among several frontrunners in the crowded Republican primary field. He pitches himself as Tennessee’s “most conservative legislator” who stood against state Republican leadership during this year’s battle over school vouchers — although he supports President Trump’s federal school voucher plans.
Green has endorsed Republican Matt Van Epps as his successor. Van Epps is a U.S. Army Ranger and West Point graduate who served in the same special operations regiment as Green.

Barrett has also earned endorsements from conservative nonprofit Tennessee Stands, country musician John Rich (his childhood friend), the House Freedom Fund (a wing of the Freedom Caucus) and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and former Huntington Beach, Calif., City Councilman Tito Ortiz.
“Camie’s support means a great deal to my wife, Holly, and me,” Barrett says. “She knows how important it is to have leaders in Washington who are grounded in faith, anchored by family, and driven by service. That’s exactly the kind of leadership I will bring. I’ve taken on the establishment in Nashville, and I’ll take on the snakes in Washington. Together, we will send a Tennessee tough conservative fighter who answers only to the people of our district.”
