There were few surprises in Tennessee’s state and federal races on election night.

Republican incumbent Sen. Marsha Blackburn won reelection to one of the state's two U.S. Senate seats, defeating Democratic state Rep. Gloria Johnson with roughly 64 percent of the vote. Despite their various scandals, incumbent Republican Reps. Andy Ogles, John Rose and Mark Green were reelected in Tennessee's 5th, 6th and 7th Congressional Districts, respectively. Ogles defeated organizer Maryam Abolfazli, while Rose easily defended his seat against first-time candidate Lore Bergman, and Green overcame a challenge from former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry. The state's 11 electoral votes were quickly called for convicted felon and once and future President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, Democrats won or retained their seats in all of Nashville's state House and Senate races. First-time candidate Shaundelle Brooks edged out Republican Chad Bobo in the closely watched race for House District 60, which contains Hermitage, Donelson and parts of Old Hickory. Incumbent Democratic Sen. Heidi Campbell fended off a challenge from Republican Wyatt Rampy in Senate District 20, and Democratic incumbent Rep. Bo Mitchell defeated challenger and Republican Metro Councilmember Jennifer Frensley Webb.

At the local level, Mayor Freddie O'Connell secured a big win just one year into his first term: His "Choose How You Move" transit plan earned a resounding victory — roughly 183,000 votes in favor to roughly 96,000 votes against. Read more about the ins and outs of the plan here.
