With the race between Democratic nominee Aftyn Behn and Republican nominee Matt Van Epps tightening, 84,356 people took part in early voting in the special election for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District.

According to data provided by the Tennessee Secretary of State's Office, Davidson, Montgomery and Williamson counties saw the highest voter turnout with 20,951, 19,110 and 14,777 ballots cast, respectively.

The 7th District includes 11 entire counties — Stewart, Montgomery, Robertson, Houston, Dickson, Cheatham, Humphreys, Hickman, Decatur, Perry and Wayne — in addition to portions of Davidson, Williamson and Benton.

The race has heated up in recent weeks, drawing national attention from both the Republican and Democratic parties. Polls show a tightening race, with fundraising ramping up in an election that both camps acknowledge will come down to voter turnout.

On Nov. 18, former Vice President Kamala Harris stumped for Tennessee Democrats. While Harris did not appear with Behn or even mention the current state representative’s name during her remarks, national Democratic Party Chair Ken Martin has canvassed with Behn in Nashville, and Democratic Texas U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett appeared virtually with Behn in a Nashville town hall.

On Monday, Van Epps will host two rallies — one in Franklin and another in Clarksville. An appearance by U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is expected at the former, along with other federal, state and local leaders. On Saturday, Tennessee Democrats hosted what they are calling the “largest single-day doorknocking effort in history.”

The special election will fill the seat left empty following the resignation of Republican former U.S. Rep. Mark Green, which will come up for election in just one year.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2. Information about voting in Davidson County can be found at this link, with Williamson County voting information online here. More information about voting in Tennessee can be found online here.
