"Kids" the second single from Mikky Ekko's forthcoming debut album recently premiered at Gorilla vs Bear in all its shimmering, Benny Blanco and John Hill produced splendor. The first time Yours Truly heard that song it sounded a lot different. It was several months ago, Mikky invited us to his Nashville home where he played this singularly naked version of the song arranged for piano and vocal.
* A couple weeks ago
we share with youthe video for Nashvillian indie-R&B songster and
Rihanna collaboratorMikky Ekko's "Kids." Well, a few months ago, Yours Truly shot Ekko performing a stripped-down rendition of "Kids," which
they postedearlier this week. In the video, Ekko also discusses writing "Kids," which he did in London during
the 2011 riots. Interesting story, and a good performance. Watch that above.
* Local indie-country singer Andrew Combs was recently in L.A., and he stopped in at XIX Studios to play a couple of new songs. One is called "Suwanee County," and the other is called "These Dreams" — he thinks. He hasn't really settled on a name for that second one. Either way, intimate performances of two new tunes from an authentic country songwriter. See both after the jump.
* And finally, local folk dude James Wallace and his Naked Light appeared at last week's Music City Roots at Loveless Cafe, where they played epic renditions of "To the River" and "Worse Things Have Happened" from this year's Strange News From Another Star. Full, strikingly arranged versions of two solid, quirky story songs. While you're at it, kick around on Music City Roots' YouTube page for more live performance vids from various artists.
