Lyrics:
Seeing black
Seep through the cracks
Pouring out of the walls
I watch it creep and crawl
Through my room
But I can’t move
Sedate me all the time
Don’t leave me with my mind
Paralyzed
Paralyzed
Crawling in my skin
Crawling in my skin
Hide away
A quiet place
But it’s with me all the time
In the corners of my mind
Calling me
Into a dream
With blood on my lips like wine
My eyes glow in the knife
Paralyzed
Paralyzed
Crawling in my skin
Crawling in my skin
Crawling in my skin
Crawling in my skin

Thanks to safer-at-home and social distancing measures, Soccer Mommy isn’t able to undertake the tour they'd planned following the release of their fantastic new LP Color Theory. But Sophie Allison & Co. aren't letting that stop them completely from paying a visit to some of the spots where they were supposed to play. For a visual to accompany the Color Theory song "Crawling in My Skin," Allison and her band hit up cities across North America in a series of 8-bit-style animated videos directed by Bella Clark.
This isn't the first time the group has gone virtual — a few weeks back, they crashed the servers of the online game Club Penguin Rewritten when more than 10,000 fans attempted to join. (The Q&A annd album listening session was ultimately rescheduled.) Allison also made her love of video games clear in a performance in April for La Blogothèque, citing Stardew Valley as a favorite.
For their 8-Bit Music Video Tour, Soccer Mommy plays a virtual show (just the one song, though) in five different cities. In Seattle (see above), the band plays at the base of the Space Needle, surrounded by lush evergreen trees and dancing fans in front of a full moon. In Minneapolis they’re set up in one of the city’s many skyways, which come in handy when several inches of snow cover the sidewalks for months at a time. Anyone who’s attended SXSW will recognize Austin’s location, the Congress Avenue Bridge, aka the Bat Bridge, where thousands of bats take flight every night through the spring and summer. It can gather bigger crowds than some of the festival’s showcases!
Clark also takes the band to the allegedly haunted Congress Plaza Hotel in Chicago (where the ghost of Al Capone has been sighted) and an abandoned subway station in Toronto. Each “tour date” also includes links to local record stores so fans can purchase the new album while supporting independent retailers. (Here are a few in Nashville.)
And don't be bummed if the band didn't make it to your town. Their 8-bit icons are downloadable at soccermommyband.com/video-tour so you can show ’em around your city or have them perform in your living room. (Brave move, seeing as how the internet so often proves it doesn’t deserve nice things.)
