American Hedonism is the second full-length from genre-busting outfit Your Neighbors, helmed by dynamic singer-songwriter Walker Robinson. Each song melts into the next across the album, a 34-minute deep dive into contemporary society’s slow-motion collapse.

Lyrically, Robinson focuses on the tug-of-war between self-restraint and instant gratification, and how that affects the search for meaning in the lives he writes about. Sonically, the album uses chaos to its advantage, fusing indie rock, hip-hop and electronic textures. On their own, you might not expect the dark rush of “Struggle Bars” and the bittersweet folk-pop of “Sarah” to be part of the same album, but the context pulls them together.

While the album might come across as less accessible than Robinson’s 2021 debut Love Your Neighbors, the gritty mélange of Hedonism sticks with you long after it’s over and demands repeat listens. Your Neighbors’ tour already made a hometown stop in Music City on April 5 at Exit/In, but follow the project on Instagram for more updates.
