Following Saturday’s tornadoes that killed three people in Clarksville and three in Madison and caused widespread damage, an array of nonprofit organizations went into action, and a federal disaster declaration has unlocked some more avenues to aid. Many, many individuals have also stepped up to help, including folks across Nashville’s music scenes.
For WNXP, Jewly Hight checked in with hip-hop champions Tim Gent, Case Arnold and A.B. Eastwood about helping out in Clarksville, where they grew up. Nashfeels co-founder and occasional Scene contributor D’Llisha Davis and her crew continue efforts to lend a hand in Madison. And there are several upcoming concerts, either organized as benefit shows or turned into them in the wake of the horrific storms.
- Scene contributing editor and guitar wiz Jack Silverman noted that a couple of shows he’s involved with this week will raise funds to help those affected. First: Tonight, Dec. 14, Grateful Dead tribute ensemble Nashville Is Dead will be donating 100 percent of proceeds from their show at The Basement East to Community Resource Center of Middle Tennessee.
- Then, the Jack Silverman Quartet show on Friday night at The Dive Motel is operating on a tip-jar basis, but all donations they collect will go to United Way of Greater Nashville’s Tornado Response Fund. See Jack’s post for all the details.
- On Sunday, Dec. 17, Unplugged for Tennessee brings a slew of country songsmiths including HARDY, Alanna Springsteen and Abby Anderson to Exit/In. Proceeds benefit our region’s Red Cross chapter and Hands On Nashville. At press time, this event had sold out.
- On Tuesday, Dec. 19, starting at 7 p.m., Scott Jones, Lorenzo Piccone, Amanda Pruitt and more will play a benefit at Tin Roof Broadway, with funds raised going directly to affected families.
- On Saturday, Jan. 6, Like-Hearted House Concerts hosts a benefit called The River of Peace Tornado Relief Concert featuring Adrian and Meredith, Claire Kelly, Melody Walker and many more. See the Facebook page for more details, or email likeheartedhouseconcerts[at]gmail[dot]com.
- The Women Unite show on Monday, Jan. 8, at AB Hillsboro Village, featuring Gwen Levey and the Breakdown, is also collecting donations for the Community Resource Center.
As news comes about more benefit shows, we’ll add them to this list. If events sell out or you find you can’t make it, don’t forget you can always make a contribution to the organizations they’re supporting.
