The Pink Spiders at Mercy Lounge, 8/6/2016
Maybe you're excited about new music from The Pink Spiders due to the cloud of nostalgia still hanging around from Sunday night's Silent Friction reunion — members of SF did, after all, go on to be part of The Pink Spiders, Hotpipes and many other local rock acts. But even if you weren't around for the Spiders' heyday, there's a good chance you'll appreciate the new tunes they've been working on.
To wit, we're very pleased to premiere "Easier Than Ever," the first new track from the band since a pair of one-off singles in 2011 (or, if you wanna count full-lengths, their 2008 Brendan O'Brien-produced LP Sweat It Out). In many ways, the new number picks up pretty much where frontman Matt Friction & Co. left off, making a time-tested blend of snarly, supremely hooky Weezerian power pop with a self-deprecating lyric that runs counter to their snotty image: "Baby I'm easier than ever / I had a hairpin trigger / Now I'm really back / So if we can't get back together / That's not a problem."Â
Check it out below, and preorder a 7-inch from the Spiders' website.
