Today’s Takeout Pick: Guerilla Bizkits

Much of the restaurant industry has had to rapidly change its business model due to COVID-19, and we’re highlighting the Nashville places that are attempting to stay open. We will give you a critic’s pick for a restaurant and a dish, as well as a running list of restaurants still open that you can support. Today: Guerilla Bizkits.

"Time Flies" when you're "Sitting Around at Home," and maybe you've "Forgotten" all about breakfast. Have "High Hopes" to fill that "Big Mouth"? Take your breakfast in a "New Direction" and try Guerilla Bizkits! In fact, why not "Start Today"?

OK, OK, sorry. I had to. For real, though, Guerilla Bizkits isn't just a '90s hardcore kid's dream come true — it's a legit biscuit service that delivers fresh-baked vegan biscuits to your door.

Here's how it works: Orders can be placed via their website every Sunday through Tuesday (or until sold out), and the biscuits currently come in three flavors — Straight Edge (buttermilk), Loaded (garlic and cheddar) and Blackout (cherry and jalapeño). Order them one at a time ($3) or in packs of five ($12). Then they bring you your Bizkits on Saturday morning so long as you live within 15 miles of the 37206 zip code. (Delivery is free if you live five miles or closer and $3-$5 if you live farther away.)

And these biscuits are goooood. Obviously a "vegan" biscuit can raise the eyebrow of any biscuit purist, but Guerilla Bizkits has managed to get a nice golden crust and a soft, tender inside without butter or lard (so long as you reheat before you eat, as they suggest).

The Loaded Biscuit is super garlicky and perfect for a savory breakfast sandwich. The shreds of cheddar made it fall apart a bit easily — the sandwich ultimately required a fork — but it tasted great. And I was surprised by how much I loved the Blackout flavor too. Usually I don't want too much fuss in my biscuits — cheese is fine, maybe some scallions, but anything more falls too far into scone territory. (And I do not like scones. Scones are baked poster paste. Do not get me started on scones.) This biscuit is an exception — it had a good bit of heat from the jalapenos and was packed with hunks of sweet dried cherries. Would definitely order again.

Guerilla Bizkits has been partnering with LabCanna throughout August to offer date packs and picnic baskets — featuring cocktails or mocktails from Pearl Diver, Walker Brothers Kombucha, TenneCBD products and more — so keep an eye on their Instagram for upcoming drive-through and curbside options. You should also know they are selling a T-shirt with a STAGE-DIVING BISCUIT ON IT. Amazing.

While some may have had existing relationships with delivery providers, most of this list are offering the service for the first time. Most offer curbside pickup, but check when you order.
