The Scene Staff Tries to Guess Oreo's New Mystery Flavor

No, to answer your first and obvious question, I cannot walk past limited-edition Oreos in the grocery store without buying them. Be it Swedish Fish or Peeps flavor, I will buy it, I will try it, and I am not ashamed. The new Cookie Butter Oreos are great! A little one note, but whatever. I did not care for the Peanut Butter and Jelly Oreos, however, only because they presented "jelly" as a flavor, which is ridiculous. (Also, the "jelly" should've been grape flavor, but it was instead some kind of berry and that's so disappointing.)

But for this round of the Scene's weirdo-Oreo feeding frenzy, the cookies came to us. The Scene was sent a package of Mystery Oreos, which invited us to "GUESS THE FLAVOR FOR A CHANCE TO WIN $50,000." OK, Oreo, we'll accept your challenge. I don't know what you've heard about print media, but it is, surprisingly, not the most lucrative business, so a shot at $50K in exchange for eating a cookie sounds like a pretty good game to me.

Before opening the package, the theories flew around — "It's got to be something for fall," said one staffer. "I guess butter pecan. I don't know why," said another.

The instant I cracked open the plastic, the smell of fruity breakfast cereal stormed into my nose. "OK, it definitely smells like Froot Loops," I said to the crowd of hungry co-workers gathered around the Taste Test Desk.

"Ugh, I fucking hate Froot Loops!" someone cried out. She tasted a cookie anyway. "They’re totally pointless! Why would you eat a cookie that tastes like this? I’m so sad! I wanted an Oreo so badly!"

But she was on an island of her own. Everyone else loved them (or, at least, liked them).

"Yeah! Hell yeah! I want that in injectable form," one news reporter cried out just before going back for seconds.

"It tastes like the cartoon idea of fruit," another said.

"Tastes exactly like those lemon cookies to me. If I were blindfolded I don’t think I could tell the difference."

Then the debate began.

"Froot Loops or Fruity Pebbles?"

"I think Froot Loops."

"Loops more than Pebbles."

"I taste more Trix ..."

"Just to be different, I'm gonna say Juicy Fruit."

"There's a minty aftertaste as well."

"Do you still have some toothpaste left from this morning?"

"Maybe."

Now, it's worth noting that while most agreed the cookies tasted more Froot Loops than Fruity Pebbles, Oreos is a Nabisco product that's part of the Mondelēz International family. Also a part of that company? Post Cereals, which most recently collaborated with Mondelēz to bring back Oreo O's. And can you guess which breakfast cereal is a part of the Post Cereal product line? Yup, Fruity fuckin' Pebbles! Since the two companies teamed up to make Oreos into a breakfast cereal again, it makes sense that they'd then turn around and make breakfast cereal into a cookie.

So, Fruity Pebbles it is. Mystery solved.

Can we have our $50,000 now, Oreo?
