In Just 10 Years of Cooking, Tailor’s Vivek Surti Has Come a Long Way

Tailor's Vivek Surti

After more than two years sharing a kitchen — first with Mop & Broom and then with Saint Stephen — Vivek Surti is finally getting a kitchen of his own. He'll relocate his supper-club-inspired restaurant Tailor from its current location on Third Avenue North to a larger space just a half-mile away at 620 Taylor St. While Surti swears he didn’t choose the new address because of the symmetry with his establishment's name, the opportunity to control both the front and back of house completely was too good for him to resist.

“Our vision for Tailor has always been to give guests an unforgettable night, and this move represents our continued commitment to that,” says Surti in the official announcement. “We are excited to create a more comprehensive experience for guests from beginning to end."

Surti — who celebrated a decade of his supper clubs earlier this year — has contracted the team of architects at Pfeffer Torode to design the new Tailor Nashville location, with an anticipated completion date of early 2022. Tailor served the final service at its original location last weekend in preparation for the big move. In the meantime, the chef hopes to stay front-of-mind with the dining public by returning to his pop-up supper club roots.

Along with manager and business partner Heather Southerland, Surti is excited to take the Tailor show on the road again like he did during his formative years operating as VEA Supper Club, when he hosted more than a hundred dinners at various locations around town. He explains: “As we curate the new space’s layout and design with creative intention, Heather and I felt that there’s no better way to immerse ourselves into that process than to go back to our roots, focusing on each and every aspect of our operations as an opportunity to wow our dinner guests. While it’s always bittersweet to leave your first home, we certainly can’t wait to welcome everyone to the new one.”

More details about Tailor’s pop-up plans will be announced in the coming weeks at tailornashville.com and through the restaurant’s Instagram and Facebook pages.
