Pat Martin’s popular down-home hamburger joint, Hugh Baby’s, continues its growth locally with a third location opening on Tuesday, Feb. 26 Monday, March 4 at 718 Thompson Lane across from 100 Oaks. Joining the original Hugh Baby’s on Charlotte and a second spot on West End, the latest link in the chainlet is a 2,700-square foot outpost with seating for 70 guests to enjoy the menu of burgers, hot dogs, barbecue sandwiches, shakes and more in the same sort of bright and cheery environment as the other two locations.
The family-friendly burger restaurants offer a wonderful combination of modern efficiency with an old-school vibe reminiscent of some of the prototypical diners, burger and barbecue shops that inspired Martin to come up with his concept. However, that doesn’t mean Hugh Baby’s is resting on its laurels, but instead the team continues to innovate and expand the menu.
Beginning this Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the original two locations and rolling out on opening day in Berry Hill, Hugh Baby’s will debut several new menu items to expand their offering of fresh foods prepared a la minute by the trained kitchen staff. Fans have been clamoring for a chicken sandwich, and Martin listened, adding his version of a fine fried chicken sandwich topped with pickles and your choice of Hugh Baby’s sauces, including barbecue, white barbecue and Comeback sauce. (You really can’t lose with any of those!) For a more traditional, but no less delicious, sandwich, try their version of the club sandwich, featuring smoked turkey, cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and honey mustard.
Just like at Martin’s flagship barbecue business, there are no freezers or microwaves at Hugh Baby’s, ensuring that all the food is made fresh every day. This should be a welcome addition to the Berry Hill neighborhood and a boon for folks seeking a great lunch or dinner spot after a visit to 100 Oaks.
[Updated: Hugh Baby's has announced that due to unforeseen delays, the opening of the new location has been pushed out to Monday, March 4.]
