Last month, I shared how E3 Chophouse in Hillsboro Village has been upping its wine game with an impressive selection of wines by the bottle and glass. Jenn McDonnell and her staff have been working hard to add to the already-robust collection of wines, even during the teeth of the pandemic, when they were either closed or operating under reduced capacity regulations. These efforts have paid off with a wine list that is deep and broad, including both notable New World and Old World wines, plus some fun collections focusing on women in wine and BIPOC producers.
So the E3 team has decided it’s time to show the list off a little bit with a special dinner on Thursday, May 6, beginning with a reception at 6 p.m. and followed by a four-course pairing dinner. The guest of honor for the dinner will be Chris Lozano, regional market manager of Champagne Henriot, who will be pouring Henriot Champagne at the reception. That will be followed by a four courses of chef-inspired steakhouse cuisine designed to accompany Henriot Champagnes and Beaux Frères wines.
One of the few remaining family-owned Champagne houses, Henriot is known for its elegant refined sparklers, and their new Cellar Master, Alice Tétienne, was awarded the Best Winemaker of the Year in 2020 by Trophées Champenois. Beaux Frères is an Oregon winery that specializes in boutique pinot noirs, which should make for some fun pairing opportunities. Many folks don’t know it, but pinot noir is actually one of the primary grapes used in the production of Champagne and the only red grape allowed in the blend besides the seldom-seen Pinot Meunier. So there is a through line flowing across the evening’s wine choices.
Tickets for this special dinner are $175 per guest, and seating will be limited to allow for appropriate distancing between tables while maintaining an intimate vibe at the event. Get yours at the event website before they sell out!
