The hospitality company that previously opened steakhouse Supper Club in October in Hillsboro Village — and that will unveil Bungalow10 in an adjacent building on Jan. 26 — is now eyeing for the district a Feb. 2 opening for speakeasy-style cocktail club Jar.
According to a release, the Make a Play Hospitality Group concept will be located at 1910 Wedgewood Ave. Though sharing the structure housing Bungalow10, the bar will be accessed via its own entrance. Supper Club is located next door at 2000 Belcourt Ave. in a building that once housed restaurants Faison's and The Trace (read here).
Jar will offer a small bites menu and live DJs spinning primarily Top 40 hits. The 3,600-square-foot space will feature strobe lights, disco lasers, fog machines, a kiss cam and a dance cam. It will be able to accommodate up to 250 guests with various seating options, including lounge booths and cabanas.
The release notes the space will be “bright and bold, with funky jewel-toned couches and LED screens wrapping the wall." In addition, bamboo plants line the back wall of the space, to also offer retractable windows.
Jar and Bungalow10 will operate from a building most recently home to Cabana Taps and Music City Bread Company and, prior to that, local restaurateur Randy Rayburn’s Cabana. The structure is perhaps best known as having housed, in the 1990s, late-night spot The Iguana.
Make a Play Hospitality Culinary Director Brandon Truesdale created Jar’s American tapas menu, to be highlighted by salmon tenders, sliders and other appetizers.
Guests are encouraged to make reservations. A cover will be charged after 10 p.m., but patrons who sign up in advance will have their cover fee waived.
Make a Play Hospitality is led by Joe Johnson and Robert Higgins, with Jar marking the duo’s 10th hospitality venture. The company previously operated the since-closed Jazz & Jokes Lounge in downtown Nashville near Printers Alley.
Johnson and Higgins are not disclosing either the terms of their lease (with an Arizona-based ownership) or the cost to get Jar operational. Shannon Ford will serve as general manager for both Jar and Bungalow10.
The release notes, though with no specificity, the company is also eyeing additional Hillsboro Village concepts.
“Hillsboro Village used to be the place to go out and have fun back in the day, and we’re aiming to bring these vibes back to the area with the addition of Jar,” Higgins says in the release. “We are so excited to bring the nightlife scene back to one of Nashville’s most historic neighborhoods.”
Jar’s hours of operations will be Thursdays, 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays, 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
