People forget how much of a game-changer Terminator 2: Judgment Day was when it hit multiplexes back in 1991. Arnold Schwarzenegger and co-writer/director James Cameron figuratively and literally pulled out the big guns for this sequel to their 1984 sci-fi smash The Terminator. This time around, Schwarzenegger’s time-traveling cyborg is the good guy, sent to protect Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and her young son (Edward Furlong), who will grow up to lead the war against the machines. One of the first summer event movies to go all-in on the CGI, T2 saw Cameron collaborate with Industrial Light & Magic in creating the T-1000 (Robert Patrick), the advanced, shape-shifting killing machine who goes after them. This action-packed analog-versus-digital throwdown (which officially kicked off the age of the computer-enhanced blockbuster) was a global smash, grossing more than half a billion dollars at the box office and later winning Oscars for its groundbreaking visual, makeup and sound effects. All this week, Fathom will hold 35th anniversary screenings (in 2D, 3D and 4DX) all over the country, including theaters around these parts. Visit fathomevents.com for showtimes.

Aug. 28-Sept. 2 at local Regal and AMC theaters
