Pink and Black Bold Live Music Festival Flyer - 1

A quartet of ace musicians is getting together for the first time Thursday night at The Underdog for a show that promises to be a funky good time. The lineup features soulful vocalist-keyboardist Adam Wakefield; blues and jazz vocalist-guitarist Jack Ruch; former Gov’t Mule bassist Kevin Scott, who is known for his funky, improvisational style; and blues and funk drummer Will Loney. The idea for the show arose from a recent session Wakefield and Scott played on. “We did some studio work together about a month ago, and we were like, ‘Shit, we should, like, actually play real music together,’” recalls Wakefield, who is probably best known as the runner-up on Season 10 of The Voice. “So I was like, ‘Well, let’s just book a show over at The Underdog.’” Wakefield says the quartet will probably play some original material, but mainly will perform songs they all love. “It will be cool, fun covers, like The Meters and blues tunes,” he says. “We’ll come up with a groove, then I’ll pick an old blues tune like ‘Hoochie Coochie Man’ or ‘I’m Ready,’ or some tune like that, and I’ll sing the words over the top of it.”
