Let’s face it: Almost nobody voting for Register of Deeds knew exactly what the Register of Deeds actually does. The outcome of that May 1 election was a footnote compared to the bigger deal of the ultimately defeated transit plan, and the victor for the office was overwhelmingly predicted to be Metro Councilmember Karen Johnson (who in fact won). But hopeless odds couldn’t stop Jeopardy champion, Welsh history enthusiast and Scene contributor J.R. Lind from mounting a quixotic quest to tip the vote in his favor. Lind’s Twitter campaign was fully tongue-in-cheek, but its silliness was well-needed in an election season rife with polemics and never-ending campaign mailers. LANCE CONZETT
