For the second straight month, more than 30 homes in the Nashville area sold for at least $1 million, a sign that the rising tide of the rebounding real estate market is raising all the boats — even the yachts.

Outside of the competition to make the list, Headline Homes returns this month to its original home in the pages of the Scene with a few interesting notes. An arena-rock guitarist buys the former home of a disco queen. An actress who had roles in two girl-power cult films moves to The Governors Club. And one home points out the weirdness of the boundaries between the city's high-end satellite cities.

What follows is the Top 10 single-family home purchases in Nashville and surrounding counties for August, ranked by price:

1. 2410 Hidden River Lane, Franklin, 37069

Buyer: Ahave Family Land Trust, Diane R. Cooke, trustee

Sell price: $5 millionSellers: Scot K. and Sharon S. Ware

Sellers' agent: Christy Reed Blackwell, Christianson, Patterson, Courtney & Associates

Buyer's agent: Melissa Raymond, Synergy Realty Network

Sitting on nearly six acres, this massive home contains more than 17,000 square feet — which makes the notation that there's an additional 8 square feet elsewhere on the property rather amusing. It spent nearly six months on the market, but ended up fetching just $300,000 less than its asking price.

It includes a wine room, home theater and massage area.

The seller, Scot Ware, is the chairman and CEO of fiber optics company WareCentre. The Wares paid nearly $3.6 million for the property in 2002.

2. 914 Overton Lea Road, Oak Hill, 37220

Buyers: Tommy R. and Jeanne Mason Shaw

Sell price: $2.35 million

Sellers: Joel R. and Diane H. Buckberg

Sellers' agents: Judy Williams and Richard Williams, Crye-Leike Inc

Buyers' agent: Gail Greil, Zeitlin & Co. Realtors

Here's a Nashville sentence: Styx guitarist buys former home of Donna Summer.

Tommy Shaw bought this Oak Hill home with his lady — it includes a "billiard room," "massive gunnite pool" and stocked pond — from the Buckbergs (he of counsel with Baker Donelson). But the Buckbergs bought it from the late Queen of Disco and her husband.

The Shaws, oddly enough, have made real estate news before. Their Hollywood Hills home was featured on Bravo's Flipping Out reality show in 2011. That home sailed away last month for $5.3 million. Maybe the renovation left Shaw with t-t-t-t-t-t-t-too much time on his hands.

3. 1705 Talbot Trail, Franklin, 37069

Buyers: Chandrashekhar Ramaiah and Kushi M. Reddy

Sell price: $1.95 million

Seller: James D. Lewis

Seller's agent: Starling Davis, Fridrich & Clark

Buyers' agent: Neeru Jain, Benchmark Realty

Franklin's Laurelbrooke subdivision is tony in toto, but when a home is listed as being in the neighborhood's "Estate Section" that makes it extra-special. And when said estate has a name — in this case, "Fontenay Chateau" — it's definitely top-notch.

This one includes a two-story domed entrance and a 100-bottle wine cellar. And a seven-car garage. And a lanai — an architectural feature best known for its frequent mention on The Golden Girls.

Ramaiah is a thoracic surgeon at St. Thomas. Lewis is the founder and CEO of Cumberland Consulting Group.

4. 230 Governors Way, Brentwood, 37027

Buyers: Michael R. and Tsianina M. Lohmann

Sell price: $1.9 million

Sellers: Michael S.and Kimberly K. Cookson

Sellers' agents: Judy Williams and Richard Williams, Crye-Leike Inc.

Buyers' agent: Michelle Maldonado, The Lipman Group Sotheby's International

Mrs. Lohmann (aka Tsianina Joelson) is best known for her role as Darcy in quintessential teen cheerleader comedy Bring It On, which turns 13 this month.

Since then, she had a recurring role on Xena: Warrior Princess.

Her new home in The Governors Club includes five bedrooms — all suites.

5. 1683 Old Hillsboro Road, Franklin, 37064

Buyers: Michael J. and Shana Rosengarten

Sell price: $1.85 million

Sellers: Christopher A. and Heather A. Cooley

Sellers' agent: Beth Molteni, Fridrich & Clark

Buyers' agent: Lisa Culp Taylor, Bob Parks Realty

The 1800s farmhouse — clocking in at 6,636 square feet — was renovated five years ago. The historic log walls, poplar floors and exposed stone remain, but a "new addition delightfully transitions into large, open spaces [with] state of the art appointments."

It sits on 10 acres and spent just two months on the market, fetching just $45,000 less than the original ask.

The Rosengartens appeared in Headline Homes back in 2010, too, topping the December list with their buy of a Hidden River Lane home.

6. 2017 Legends Ridge Drive, Franklin, 37069

Buyer: Walk The Walk Family Trust, Roy Marshall Gustin, trustee

Sell price: $1.84 million

Sellers: Robert W. and Karen C. Mathus

Sellers' agent: Karen Mathus, Benchmark Realty

Buyer's agent: Tim Thompson, Tim Thompson Premier Realtors

Gustin is out of L.A., where he frequently buys luxury homes via the Walk The Walk Trust.

Here in Nashville, he bought this Parade of Homes winner, an 8,765 square-foot, five-bedroom house in Legends Ridge.

7. 113 Lynnwood Blvd., Belle Meade, 37205

Buyers: Margaret M. and Robert J. Rolfsen Jr.

Sell price: $1.76 million

Seller: Claiborne R. Blevins

Seller's agent: Bill Bainbridge, Keller Williams Realty

Buyers' agents: Barbara Keith Payne and Jane Jackson, Pilkerton Realtors

This Belle Meade home was built in 1945 but "95 percent renovated" four years ago. The listing says it's on the "quiet stretch of Lynnwood," which raises the question where the hard-partying stretch of Lynnwood is located.

While it isn't unusual for homes at all price points to pick up something close to their asking price in the current market rebound, it's rare for one to spend seven weeks on the market and still get just $40,000 off the sticker price.

8. (tie) 1012 Belle Meade Blvd., Belle Meade, 37205

Buyers: Andrew D. and Shelley Franklin

Sell price: $1.65 million

Sellers: Raymond J. and Nicole P.H. Brooks

Sellers' agent: Beth Molteni, Fridrich & Clark

Buyers' agent: Shelly Dawson, Bob Parks Realty

Another award winner: This one once won "Best Exterior Renovation" from Remodeler magazine, which exists, apparently. It also has underground utilities, which is notable for a home that's nearly 60 years old.

8. (tie) 5182 Colleton Way, Brentwood, 37027

Buyers: Allan and Christina O'Bryant

Sell price: $1.65 million

Seller: Richard K. Arras

Sellers' agent: Amy B. Wyatt, Worth Properties

Buyer's agents: Heath Rolapp and Allison Greiner, Pilkerton Realtors

Lots of Headline Homes have a waterfall. Not many have "multiple waterfalls." Built in 1998, this Princeton Hills home offers "resort-like living," with spa, pool (complete with poolside firepit), plus a screened porch and a grill deck AND a cool-deck patio by the pool.

10. 814 Lynnwood Blvd., Nashville, 37205

Buyers: Oscar R. and Catherine R. Linn

Sell price: $1,480,984

Seller: HR Properties

Seller's and buyers' agent: Tom Fussell, Fridrich & Clark

Here's a little Headline Homes pro tip: if a listing says a house is in the "Belle Meade area," that means it's not actually in Belle Meade. This is a common conceit in Nashville, employed with varying levels of sophistication and subterfuge.

There's the Kroger at Belle Meade, for example, which is on the wrong side of both Harding and Hillwood to be included in the tony enclave.

An even more audacious co-optation is the Belle Meade Inn & Suites, a Best Western located at White Bridge Road and I-40.

Anyway, 814 Lynnwood is in the "Belle Meade area," but not actually in Belle Meade. It's in a little quadrilateral near where Forest Hills abuts Belle Meade, a cluster of streets unclaimed by either remanent city.
