Steve Swenson
Nashville Public Radio announced Wednesday that president and chief executive officer Steve Swenson plans to retire from the company in late spring or early summer.
According to a news release, a search is underway for Swenson's successor.
Swenson joined Nashville Public Radio in April 2019. During his nearly six years at the helm, NPR launched music discovery station WNXP and the daily live news show This Is Nashville.
Nashville Public Radio's news station, WPLN News, also earned Peabody and Edward R. Murrow awards during Swenson's tenure.
Prior to joining Nashville Public Radio, Swenson spent nearly four decades at CBS Radio, first as a broadcast journalist and then in station leadership as a news director, program director and senior vice president/general manager.
"Steve was exactly what we needed six years ago to transform Nashville Public Radio into the trusted public news and music source that Nashville deserves," Neil Thorne, Nashville Public Radio board chairman, says in the release. "With his team, he has positioned the organization to continue to grow and serve the city in exciting new ways. We wish him the very best in his retirement."
Swenson noted the "incredible privilege" he had to lead the media entity and is "excited to watch the company's next chapter and its continued growth."
