Hundreds gathered in downtown Nashville Saturday for the "Stand Up and Support the People of Iran" rally. Chanting “Justice for Mahsa Amini," "We are Mahsa," “Be her voice” and “Women, life, freedom," Iranian Americans gathered in front of the Estes Kefauver Federal Building on Broadway to speak up against the death of Mahsa Amini and others killed in the ongoing protests in Iran.

Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman, was arrested Sept. 13 by Iran's Morality Police for violating the country’s dress code for not wearing a hijab. She entered a coma and died three days later while in custody.

“Mahsa Amini’s death will not be in vain," said Azzy Far, age 28, at Saturday's event. "We have gathered today in solidarity with the women of Iran and saying no to the Islamic Republic. Iran is entering its third week of anti-government demonstrations. Our demands are simple: Zan, zendegi, azadi [women, life, freedom]. I hope one day we will see the wind blow freely through the hair of all the resilient women who choose to let theirs down."

Protests took place in cities across the country and throughout the world over the weekend.
