RiverGate Mall

RiverGate Mall — a sprawling retail complex that was a major consumer draw from Nashville's suburban shopping culture of the 1960s and 1970s — has been offered for sale for an undisclosed asking price.

Metro records show KDI Rivergate Mall LLC owns the North Davidson County property, having paid $67 million for it in 2013. The main address is 1000 Rivergate Parkway.

Partially located within the Goodlettsville city limits, the mall offers about 515,000 square feet of space and sits on roughly 30 acres.

Marketing materials note the mall structure, which opened in 1971, is home to Target, Dillard’s and J.C. Penney, among other tenants. KDI Rivergate Mall LLC includes Atlanta-based Hendon Properties, which leases and operates the suburban mall.

From the mid 1960s to the early 1970s, Davidson County saw the opening of One Hundred Oaks Mall and Harding Mall (both in South Nashville) in addition to RiverGate Mall. One Hundred Oaks Mall later was reinvented as a Vanderbilt University Medical Center facility with some retail, while Harding Mall — the first enclosed shopping mall in Tennessee — was demolished in 2005 (with its site redeveloped with a Walmart Supercenter).

Chattanooga-based retail center operator CBL Properties once owned RiverGate Mall, having sold it 11 years ago to the current owner. CBL owns and operates CoolSprings Galleria.

Bryan Belk and John Tennant with Franklin Street Real Estate Services are handling the marketing of the property for the owner.
