Carol Swain
This morning Vanderbilt University professor and far-right conservative Carol Swain — who wrote an op-ed this past year that said the death of Vandy students (and other tragedies) might be connected to godlessness — announced she will retire from her position as a professor of political science and professor of law in August of 2017.
Swain, who also wrote a column in 2015 attacking Islam that caused Vandy students to initiate a petition to remove her from campus, says she's leaving the gig because she's "ready for a new challenge."
From the announcement on Swain's website:
Effective August 15, 2017, I will retire from my position as professor of political science and professor of law at Vanderbilt University. Retirement for me will not mean a rocking chair. It will be an opportunity for me to impact more people across the globe. I am confident God will place me where I can have the greatest impact. What will I do next? I anticipate spending my time writing, speaking, and making myself available for my next assignment. Of course, I will miss the students and the rhythm of campus, but I will not miss what American universities have allowed themselves to become.
