Sure, things are bad, but at least we’re not married to these Republicans who voted for vouchers. Whenever fools talk about wanting a “return” to “traditional” gender roles, I laugh — because great, I’m ready for a society full of men who act with honor and support their families and provide materially for them. Who are wise and trusted by their friends. Who help those in need and protect the vulnerable. Men who you can point to and say, “Son, that’s a man.”

And shouldn’t Tennessee Republicans, who have all this power and who control everything, be a bunch of “traditional” men? Shouldn’t women who are "naturally programmed to look for strong providers" be finding a crowd of them at the Tennessee State Capitol?

You’d think! But if traditional gender roles are so great and so fulfilling for men, why do our Republican leaders prefer to be cucks?

I thought that, if some nepo-baby New York rich boy from the federal government tried to bully a “traditional” Tennessee man, we’d find Gov. Bill Lee on his front porch nodding sagely, singing softly, “Once two strangers climbed ol’ Rocky Top, looking for a moonshine still. Strangers ain’t come down from Rocky Top. Reckon they never will.”

“What’s that, Bill?”

“Oh, just thinking about how much I love Tennessee football.”

“Wasn’t Trump just here?”

“Was he?”

But no! President Trump calls Gov. Lee a RINO, and Lee still drops everything to run to North Carolina to show Trump what a good lapdog he is.

You know the only thing worse than choosing to be the second person in a consensual human centipede? Choosing to be the third. And this week Republican members of the state legislature lined up behind Lee and his school voucher bill. They all know their constituents don't want this. Many of them don’t want this.

You’d think a bunch of “traditional” men would say, “I have to protect the people who voted for me, and I have to vote for what I think is right. That’s my duty.” But these guys were all, “Um, yeah, I just went along with the bullies.”

This? This is the stock from which we’re supposed to pull a society of great men with traditional values? What traditional value is it where you sheepishly cow before your leaders while they screw over your friends and family?

Wait.

Is it jus primae noctis? Is that the traditional value these men are upholding?!

It’s all so clear. They’re not talking about traditional values where men provide and protect. They’re talking about the tradition where men watch more powerful men force their will upon the rest of us, and the weak men console themselves by saying, “Well, I must have good taste, or these powerful men wouldn’t want to take what I have.”

This, I’m sorry to tell you, women, is just so often the case. The conservative men who claim to be all about traditional gender roles are so very often not man enough to uphold those traditions.

And our state legislature is a prime ... oh, excuse me ... a primae example.
