Blackburn Reportedly Tests Negative as COVID-19 Outbreak Spreads Among Republicans

Sen. Marsha Blackburn's Twitter feed reads as if it was piloted by an AI that has been fed nothing but Fox News and internet comment sections for years. Sometimes the tweets are a direct reaction to current news, and other times they seem more random — almost like political burps, carrying the aftertaste of some recent culture-war obsession. When they're not just wrongheaded, her tweets are often toxic.

Last week, though, someone noticed a pattern in the musings coming from the senator's account. Real Clear News White House reporter Philip Melanchthon Wegmann tweeted on Aug. 13 that the first letters of Blackburn's previous 11 tweets combined to spell "Free Britney."

And it's true.

We reached out to Blackburn's office to ask whether the senator was aware of the message or if it might have been the work of a clever and righteous intern. The Scene's J.R. Lind discovered that this year's summer internships ended the very same day the acrostic tweet storm was posted. But Blackburn spokesperson Spencer Hurwitz would only refer us to a statement attributed to a Blackburn staffer saying that "Senator Blackburn fights for all women and their unalienable rights."

We'd rate that claim as contested at best. But in any case, Britney Spears should be free, indeed.
