Mayor John Cooper has announced that today will be Metro Police Chief Steve Anderson’s last day on the job.
Anderson, who announced his retirement in June, was previously planning to stay on in the role as the city searches for a new police chief. Deputy Chief John Drake is taking over as interim chief beginning Friday.
In an announcement, the mayor said the city was conducting a “national search for a reform-minded Chief of Police who will make Nashville a model of community engagement and policing innovation.”
“I’m grateful to Chief Anderson for his 45 years of service in the Metro Nashville Police Department,” Cooper said. “He is a dedicated public servant with an unwavering sense of civic duty.”
