Metro Health Officials Investigating Massive Worship Concert

A Christian worship leader and failed Republican congressional candidate’s stop in Nashville Sunday has led the Metro Public Health Department to launch an investigation.

A crowd — reportedly numbering in the thousands and mostly unmasked according to images on social media — gathered at the Metro Courthouse Sunday for a concert by Sean Feucht, a California-based worship leader currently on a tour of controversial concerts.

“It’s officially a protest, so it’s legal,” Feucht said of the Nashville event in an Instagram post. “The Nashville mayor has been a little crazy towards us but that’s all right we love him.”

Brian Todd, spokesperson for the Metro Public Health Department, said Monday that the department is working with other Metro departments to investigate the event.

“The event organizer did not submit an application to the Health Department or permit application to any Metro department,” he said. “We have worked very hard to slow the spread of COVID by taking a measured approach to protect the community. The Health Department is very concerned by the actions that took place at the event and we are investigating and will pursue appropriate penalties against the organizer.”

Republican Rep. Terri Lynn Weaver of Lancaster posted a video from the stage Sunday night.

Metro’s mask mandate remains in place, as does a cap on unpermitted gatherings of more than 25 people.
