A top adviser in Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s office has resigned.

Marjorie Pomeroy-Wallace — a former chief of staff who was appointed chief strategy officer and senior adviser in July — announced her resignation on Thursday.

Pomeroy-Wallace served as chief of staff to O’Connell for nearly two years and worked heavily with the "Choose How You Move" transit initiative. She also managed his mayoral campaign.

“After several years of invigorating but grueling work on behalf of candidates at both the state and local level, the time has come for me to take a break,” Pomeroy-Wallace says in a statement.

In addition to her work at the mayor’s office, Pomeroy-Wallace has worked with Women for Tennessee’s Future, the Tennessee House Democratic Caucus, former U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper, General Sessions Judge Jim Todd and former state Rep. Mike Stewart.

“Having achieved all I set out to do, I’d like to note the incredible honor it has been to work alongside Freddie and to build the team of amazing dedicated public servants who will support his administration and vision for a Nashville for Nashvillians,” says Pomeroy-Wallace in the statement.

“Now, having entrusted the team to the capable hands of [new chief of staff] Masami Tyson, I have an opportunity to step back and spend a little time caring for myself and resting up for the next challenge as I continue to support Mayor O’Connell and this city that I love."

In a statement to the Scene, O'Connell says, "I'm deeply grateful to Marjorie for her work both as my campaign manager, coordinating success on the transit referendum and, as we transitioned into office, her work building an exceptional team in the Mayor’s Office."

"This is a personal personnel decision, and I want to respect that," he added.
