Well, at least one person doesn't believe in Nashville.
Last night, someone poured roofing tar down the side of the building at 2700 12th Ave S., where one of the more popular "I Believe in Nashville" murals resides. The spot, a popular site for tourists looking for a colorful selfie, was still wet with the black substance this morning.
Andy Howell, whose C.A. Howell & Co. owns the building, said they were alerted to it at about 6 a.m. this morning. A police report was filed, and Howell blocked off the alley to cars.
The red, white and blue mural — with its classic style and type — looks like it could be a vestige of an older Nashville, but it went up five years ago and has served as a ubiquitous backdrop for Instagram shots ever since.
Adrien Saporiti put up the 12South mural on March 5, 2012, and it has spawned several others around town, not to mention on his own design company and residences around the world. Howell said they would work to get the building cleaned up ahead of a party Saporiti is planning to throw on March 25 celebrating the mural's five-year anniversary. Some touch-up work will likely be needed.
If Pith can offer one suggestion, it's this: Maybe this is the opportunity to rotate the stars about 15 degrees to the left in order to fix the mural's #TriStarTrouble. That's something we can believe in.
