In his just-released TV ad, Bob Clement trumpets his experience as president of Cumberland University. Oddly, there's no mention of what's best known about Clement's tenure at Cumberland—his alleged affair with a university librarian.

That bombshell story broke during Clement's first race for the 5th District congressional seat back in 1987. The librarian's spouse sued Clement, citing "alienation of affection from his wife," and a seemingly incriminating taped phone conversation between Clement and the woman was made public. Clement denied the affair and counter-sued, which led to the librarian's husband withdrawing his lawsuit and publicly apologizing.

Here's more on the affair to remember.
