District 19 Council Candidate Amanda Harrison Facing Third DUI Charge

District 19 hopeful Amanda Harrison has a little something in common with Brett Withers of District 6: And it’s not a mustache.

Harrison — who faces three opponents in the Metro Council race to represent Germantown through downtown and stretching into Lebanon Pike — has been charged in three separate instances of driving under the influence: once in Sumner County, a second time in Davidson County in 2010, and again this spring.

In March, Harrison was found passed out in her vehicle before the railroad tracks at 3rd Avenue and Jo Johnston Avenue, a couple blocks from the Metro Police Department, according to an affidavit. Harrison would not consent to field sobriety or blood tests, and had “soiled her clothing,” read the report. She is charged with both driving under the influence and violating implied consent.

The affidavit from her 2010 DUI in Davidson County said Harrison admitted to drinking three beers and a vodka mixed drink after running a red light and getting pulled over near 6th Avenue and Demonbreun. She was found guilty and sentenced to nearly a year of probation.

Repeated calls and emails to Harrison for comment were not returned Tuesday or Wednesday.

Harrison is a student who will graduate from Belmont University in December with a degree in economics. She is scheduled for a court appearance regarding the March DUI in Davidson County Criminal Court Sept. 8, two days before the runoff.
