If you haven't been following the contretemps at the Williamson Co. School Board, well, count your blessings. Ever since the Tea Party muscled up a majority in the last elections, it's been five hour meetings, demands about textbook committees, calls for getting rid of MLK Day and, my favorite, renaming Winter break "Christmas and New Year's Holiday."
In a rare show of common sense, it was defeated.
It's interesting that these are the types of fights the school board wants to have in the county that's rated the best school system in the state.
For some insight into why the Tea Party is so concerned about the War on Christmas instead of, say, worrying about the county's chronic shortage of substitutes (leaving dozens of classes uncovered every day), read an email from one of the county commission members after the break. And, yes, you'll get to read bitching about Islam, too.

Tomorrow night, at the Williamson County School Board meeting, they will vote on whether to put Christmas back on the school calendar instead of Winter break, or Winterim or some other sterile substitute. We use to call it Christmas but a left leaning board from the past removed it. Other more conservative school districts call it Christmas and this is not unconstitutional.
I don't know about you, but I think it is time that we stand up for our history as a nation and for our culture because there is a movement to erase it in our educational system and in our culture as a whole. I see 9 weeks in the 7th grade county schools curriculum to intensively teach the faith of Islam and at the same time we cannot call Christmas, Christmas. We have a HOLYDAY, or holiday in winter because of Christmas, because of Christ. It is historically dishonest to erase that fact. That is my opinion. Words matter, and it is our job to protect our heritage for our kids. I want them to be culturally and spiritually rich, not ignorant of their past. Expressing that does not squelch other faiths.
If you agree, please email your school board and let them know:
