A couple of orthopedic surgeons and the oldest house in Headline Homes history land on May's list of top sales

413 Ellendale Ave.

Sometimes the appeal of our review of the top-priced homes in the area is the buyers — who among the movers and shakers is moving and shaking? Sometimes it is, to quote the real estate saw, all about "location, location, location" — there's a home in Hickman County that cost that? Sometimes it's about the features of the homes themselves or their cavernous square footage.

One interesting entry on this month's list is all about its history: a more-than-two-century-old log cabin that is one of the oldest extant log homes in Williamson County. Which isn't to say there's not geographical interest elsewhere: The governor's newest neighbor sits atop this month's list, and apparently, May was the month for orthopedic surgeons to relocate.

As always, this is the list of Top 10 home sales in Davidson and surrounding counties for May, ranked by sales price:

1. 874 South Curtiswood Lane, Oak Hill, 37204

Buyers: Gregory P. Cicotte and Annie Topie

Sale price: $4.45 million

Seller: Jeffrey Mobley, trustee

Seller's and buyers' agent: Jeanette Nelson, Parks

The governor gets a new next-door neighbor on Curtiswood. Sitting on five acres and including a guesthouse, this 10,000-square-footer was built in 1935 and renovated in 2012.

Cicotte is the head of U.S. wealth management and distribution for Jackson National, and he also played three seasons of low-level minor league baseball, going 0-5 with a 5.75 ERA in 31 appearances.

2. 863 Windstone Blvd., Brentwood, 37027

Buyers: James M. and Emily Fish

Sale price: $4.094 million

Seller: Wynstone Falls Partners LP

Seller's and buyers' agent: Sherry Erickson, Southern Land Company

This recently completed custom-built 9,600-square-foot home sits on six ridge-top acres overlooking a bluff. Its listing promises so many custom extras it doesn't bother to list them.

James Fish is a Nashville orthopedic surgeon.

3. 413 Ellendale Ave., Belle Meade, 37205

Buyers: Robert and Elizabeth B. Bruns

Sale price: $2.9 million

Sellers: Gregory S. and Carolyn W. Perrone

Sellers' agent: Sissy Rogers, Pilkerton Realtors

Buyers' agent: Jodie Barringer, Fridrich & Clark Realty

This relatively new home for Belle Meade — built in 2000 — does have touches of the old: It's built in a French country style and includes reclaimed Brazilian hardwood floors and antique chandeliers, plus gas lanterns and three masonry fireplaces.

The property also includes a 1,100-square-foot guest house.

Seller Gregory Perrone is an intellectual property attorney at Perrone & Young in Brentwood.

4. 1290 Hunters Trail Drive, Franklin, 37069

Buyers: Douglas G. and Sharon K. Pugh

Sale price: $2.8 million

Sellers: John and Jo Ella McClellan

Sellers' agents: Rita Starling Puryear and Trudy Byrd, Fridrich & Clark Realty

Buyers' agents: Tim King and Richard B. French, French King Fine Properties

This home looks like Santa Barbara transported whole-cloth to Williamson County. Formerly owned by, among others, the late Dan Evins, founder of Cracker Barrel, the home sits on nearly 24 acres overlooking the Harpeth and includes a normal oven and a pizza oven.

Buyer Doug Pugh is a fund manager for Peregrine Capital. Seller John McClellan is the operations vice president for Community Health Systems. Jo Ella McClellan owns interior design store Surroundings.

5. 3755 Perkins Road, Thompsons Station, 37179

Buyers: Jeffrey P. and Melinda M. Lawrence

Sale price: $2.464 million

Sellers: John B. and Linda Joan Colmore

Sellers' agents: Steve Fridrich and Trudy Byrd, Fridrich & Clark Realty

Buyers' agent: Betty K. Brothers, Worth Properties

The listing on this house oxymoronically describes it as an "authentic period reproduction." Built in 1988, it includes "all the bells and whistles," and its nearly 60 acres includes a pool, barn, paddocks and guest house.

Buyer Jeffrey Lawrence is the second orthopedic surgeon on this month's list.

6. 5505 Iron Gate Drive, Franklin, 37069

Buyers: Amish R. and Priya A. Purohit

Sale price: $2.088 million

Sellers: Shandy S. and Donna B. Husmann

Sellers' agent: Nancy Torrens, Zeitlin & Company

Buyers' agent: Martin Warren, Fridrich & Clark Realty

All six bedrooms in this Laurelbrooke home are suites, and there's an elevator that goes to all four floors. The house also includes two dishwashers and three laundry rooms.

Amish Purohit is an ophthalmologist specializing in retinal disorders. Shandy Husmann is managing director of Huron Consulting Group.

7. 1022 Chancery Lane South, Belle Meade, 37215

Buyer: James C. Gooch, trustee

Sale price: $1.843 million

Sellers: J. Michael and Annie Bodnar

Sellers' and buyer's agent: Steve G. Fridrich, Fridrich & Clark Realty

Bass Berry & Sims attorney Gooch represented the unknown buyer of this home, a coveted dead-end Belle Meade address, though the listing admitted it needed "a little cosmetic TLC," which makes one wonder how much it would have sold for in better condition.

Seller Michael Bodnar is an executive with Fresh Hospitality and a serial entrepreneur in food service and hospitality.

8. 698 Sneed Road West, Franklin, 37069

Buyer: Charles Mark Carver, trustee

Sale price: $1.8 million

Seller: LeQuire Family Investment Company, LP

Seller's agent: Whit Clark, Fridrich & Clark

Buyer's agent: Mike Haynes, The Realty Association

The LeQuire heirs are the sellers of this property at the corner of Sneed Road and Temple Road, including a log cabin built in 1803, making it by far the oldest home ever to appear in Headline Homes.

The listing says the property — which also includes a pond, an "old barn" and "various outbuildings" — would be ideal for development or for use as a camp.

9. 832 Windstone Blvd., Brentwood, 37027

Buyer: H.A. Beasley, trustee for the 832 Windstone Blvd. Trust

Sale price: $1.78 million

Sellers: Michael P. and Karla Healey

Sellers' agent: Sherry Erickson, Southern Land Company

Buyer's agent: Adrienee Arnett, RE/MAX Fine Homes

Another anonymous buyer makes three in a row. The hardly lived-in home is a rarity for recent custom builds in that all 6,000 of its square feet are on one floor.

10. 1408 Richland Woods Lane, Brentwood, 37027

Buyers: Scott Raymer and Robert Wesley Spining

Sale price: $1.775 million

Sellers: Gary and Lizbeth Renee Batson

Sellers' agent: Andy Watson, Alliance Solutions

Buyers' agent: Wes Spining, RE/MAX Fine Homes

This home across from Richland Country Club has a theater room, guest suite, keeping room, safe room and a second kitchen.
