On Monday nights, East Nashville staples Margot Cafe, Marché and Family Wash—representing roughly one-third of the neighborhood's viable dining options—are closed for business. So I was excited to hear that Zavós, the Greek eatery opened earlier this year by brothers David and Niko Gehrke, is now open on Monday nights. According to David, many of his friends work in the restaurant industry and can never get there, and since so many eateries are closed Mondays, now they'll have the chance.
And it's great news for me, since Zavós has become my favorite neighborhood haunt, due in large part to the exceptionally high quality-per-dollar value, as I discussed in an earlier post. Depending on what I order, I'll spend anywhere from $8 to $13, tax and tip included, and I've yet to be disappointed in meal. Last week I tried one of the daily specials—eggplant stuffed with ground beef and topped with a bechamel sauce—and it was divine. (If the owners get back to me, I'll update this post with the dish's proper name, but I won't dare attempt to butcher it from memory. All I recall is a preponderence of P's.)
I can't promise you a view like the shot of the Greek island of Santorini to the left, but Zavós is about as close to Greece as you're likely to get in Music City. Maybe they should open an outpost in Centennial Park's Parthenon.
