The Fresh Market to Open a New Store on White Bridge Road

The Fresh Market, a North Carolina-based grocery store chain, plans to open a location in the Lion's Head Village retail strip on White Bridge Road.

The store will take over the space that formerly housed Office Max, according to an announcement today from Boyle Investment Co., which owns the Lion's Head shopping center, with an opening estimated for spring 2017. (Longtime Nashvillians will remember that the site also used to house a movie theater, which had its heyday in the 1980s.)

The Fresh Market, which is known for its prepared foods, produce section and fresh-cut flowers,  already operates a popular store on Franklin Road in Brentwood, along with a location in Hendersonville.

The announcement comes less than a week after Whole Foods revealed that it plans to open its second Nashville store on Broadway and 12th Avenue North downtown, as grocery stores position themselves in Nashville's development boom.

In the Boyle Investment announcement, the company touts the strategic value of Lion's Head Village, which serves Belle Meade and Green Hills as well as West Nashville. (My favorite business in the strip is Anatolia Turkish Restaurant, along with the handy Target store nearby.)

"The Fresh Market will raise the profile of Lion’s Head Village, whose customers have approximately $19,000 more buying power per household than the average Nashville MSA household," Boyle says. "The center is strategically located along White Bridge Road, a major commercial artery serving a highly affluent, densely populated area."
